Vote By Mail

Vote By Mail - Absentee Ballot

This is a 2 step process: 1) Request the ballot. 2) Submit your voted ballot. DO BOTH STEPS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.

Requesting an Absentee Ballot can now be done in either of TWO ways:

OR

The deadline to submit a request for the November 3, 2020, general election is 5 p.m Tuesday, October 27. The Absentee Ballot Request Form may be submitted to the Lincoln County Board of Elections (BOE) – by mail, in-person, by fax, or by email.

Using either method, if there is a problem with your request, the BOE will return it to you and you can resubmit using either the paper form or the new portal. The BOE will begin to mail out Absentee Ballots around September 4.

Track Your Ballot

Absentee by-mail voters can track the status of their ballot in three different ways:

1) BallotTrax

BallotTrax allows NC voters with valid absentee ballot requests to create an account. After creating an account, voters will be able to:

  • Log in to view the status of their absentee by-mail request and ballot.
  • Learn if their ballot cannot be accepted because of issues such as a missing signature or witness information. If this occurs, the county board of elections will provide information to the voter on how to correct the issue.
  • Sign up for email, text, and/or voice alerts for status updates.

Click here for more information on creating an account in BallotTrax.

2) Voter Search Tool

When a county board of elections marks a ballot as Accepted, that information will appear in that voter’s record available through the State Board’s Voter Search Tool. Because absentee ballot request information is confidential under state law until the ballot is accepted or until Election Day, absentee request information does not appear in the Voter Search Tool.

3) Contact Your County Board of Elections

If you have questions about the status of your absentee ballot that cannot be answered through BallotTrax or the Voter Search Tool, contact your county board of elections. Please be advised that county board offices are extremely busy.

  1. In-person Absentee Ballot submission avoids depending on USPS delivery.
  2. Photo ID is NOT Required to Vote / La identificación de la foto no es necesaria para votar.
  3. Note: If you request an absentee ballot, you can still vote in person (One-Stop or Election Day). But, you can only vote ONCE. Having the Absentee Ballot can be good insurance in case something interferes with your in-person voting (e.g., sickness, …).
